Tom
Tom is my latest composition, it is a solo for trumpet. In September 2022 I played trumpet in a musical (De Bende van Oss). The music was more classical than I am used to and there were quite a few pieces in 3/4 time. One song was so beautiful with a violin solo in 3/4 time. That music inspired me to compose this jazz waltz.
The piece starts with the bass and then the trumpet plays the melody beautifully small together with the bass. Then the band comes in with a little tutti and then the trumpet solo. Nice and small, it's mainly about the atmosphere.
The piece is called Tom because the name of the conductor of the musical is Tom Lowenthal and I thought it would be nice to name this piece after him.
Corona Blues
Corona Blues is a straight forward blues. I composed this song during the corona pandemic. I was sitting at the piano playing some blues and this song came out. At first I thought it was a bit cliché, but it works and I thought why not. It's a bit of a Count Basie style song with a strong intro then a simple solo of the sax melody line, a special and then the ending tutti, simple but affective.
But not for me
I wrote this arrangement in 2021. It is an adaptation of Chet Baker's performance. I used Chet Baker's solo as a special for the sax section.
